Project 2019 Milwaukee Chapter is proud to announce the " Fall, 2003 - Grade Incentive Program"
Seeking knowledge and valuing education will result in better lives, better communities, and a better world. We must, therefore, use every means available to stimulate, to motivate, and to inspire our children to seek knowledge and to value education.
Those who seek knowledge and value education will be rewarded in many ways and on many levels. However, some of these rewards may not be easily recognized and others will come later in life. The purpose of this Grade Incentive Program is to reward our children now for their educational excellence and to make it clear to them that we truly believe that it will lead them to success in the future.

UPDATE: *** Project 2019 College Prep Experience ***
Project 2019 Milwaukee Chapter's College Prep Experience will start on Monday, July 7, 2003 at 5 PM at 2850 N. Teutonia.
Several families have called to reserve spaces for their children in this program, and we expect more over the next few days. They are very
positive about the College Prep Experience.
We expect this to be a uniquely exciting program that will make a difference in African-American student achievment and graduation rates.
It will be even better, though, with your support. Please do one or more of the following:
- Participate in the program or have your children be part of the program.
- Tell others about the program and have them call Mileka at 350-2911 for more information or to register.
- Make a financial donation to help with the expenses of the program. These things don't happen for free. We especially need to get a van
for transporting participants. Send donations to: P.O. Box 12037, Milwaukee, WI 53212, or call 350-2911 and we'll pick it up. If you wish to
remain anonymous let us know and we'll honor your request.
- Ask others to donate money to help this effort.
- Donate various items such as school supplies, books, computer items, etc.
- Volunteer to teach, mentor or monitor in the program. We can work with your schedule.
- Send us others who can teach, mentor or monitor.
Outside of the awards we may give out, we will try our best to reward those who help in other ways. If we get enough money, we will pay
stipends to volunteers, especially if they are unemployed or on fixed incomes. We will always serve as a reference to those who volunteer for us,
and we do welcome volunteers who need community service hours.
We thank those of you who may have already done something to support Project 2019 Milwaukee Chapter. Special thanks to John Bowles for
allowing us to promote Project 2019 at the National Association of Minority Contractors convention.
Call (414) 350-2911 ( or send E-Mail ) if you have questions or need additional information.

***PROJECT 2019 MILWAUKEE CHAPTER BULLETIN***
* Project 2019 Celebration Coming Up!*
* Project 2019 College Prep Experience Starting June 30*
* Project 2019 National Convention Held*
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Well, we've all made it through another school year. Hope everyone you know passed and that those who were to graduate actually did that.
Thanks to all of you who supported the work of Project 2019 Milwaukee Chapter during this first year.
Let's celebrate! Come out on Saturday, June 28, 2003 at 1:00 to our headquarters, 2850 N. Teutonia (at Locust), where we will celebrate: The end of the school year, the beginning of summer, and the first year of Project 2019 in Milwaukee. All 2003 graduates who attend will get a gift, and there will be free food for everyone. We will also finalize plans for our own summer program, the College Prep Experience. Come one come all - It'll be an enjoyable break in your weekend routine.
#########################################################
After some thought and deliberation, Project 2019 Milwaukee Chapter has decided to move forward with its own summer program. We figure if we
are going to ask others in the communuity to do something about the elimination of summer school for 2003 then we should put our "money" where
our mouth is and start one ourselves.
The Project 2019 "College Prep Experience" will take place at:
2850 N. Teutonia
Monday, June 30 to Friday, August 29, 2003.
From 5:00pm --- 9:00pm
It will probably be open during the day as well but that depends on y'all coming forward to help out or finding some folks who will.
All ages and grades are welcome at the College Prep Experience. It will include academic reinforcement in the basics- reading, writing, math,
science. There will also be computer time and exposure to various learning opportunities. Field trips and other stuff will be available too.
Our College Prep Experience will strive to be relevant to young people and it will have a strong Black/African-centered thrust.
Folks can get all this for just $50 and if they don't have the funds maybe some of you will come forward and sponsor one or more of them or
bring us someone else who can. We will take any and all donations to help us do this program. We also hope to be able to start a College Fund
for all who participate in the College Prep Experience and stay until the end.

Project 2019's National Convention took place from Friday, April 25 to Sunday, April 27, 2003 at the Marriott Hotel in Oak Brook, IL.
Milwaukee was represented by its chapter president, Mileka Aljuwani, and the chapter vice-president, Lavante Washington. Mileka spoke at the
conference banquet about the work in Milwaukee. The conference was nice, and it was great to meet some of the people who support Project 2019 who don't live in Milwaukee.

Thanks to Ernesto Chacon from Governor Doyle's office for attending our April meeting and showing support for Project 2019. Of course, we
thank everyone who has taken the time to come to our meetings.

This bulletin is sent to anyone who has been in touch with us and given us an email address. It will mostly be limited to short announcements
and news about the chapter. The idea is to put the announcements and requests out in the hope that you will be able to respond in some way.
The state of African-American education won't improve just because we talk or complain about it- we must also take action. If we don't who
will?

Once again, the Milwaukee Chapter of Project 2019 had a booth at Milwaukee's "Juneteenth" Day celebration. This year's celebration, held on Thursday, June 19th, marked Milwaukee's 32nd annual commemoration of "Juneteenth" and is the largest such event in the nation.
Thank you to all the people who stopped by our booth to meet the author and founder of "Project 2019," Charles Sanford, his wife, Rose, Project 2019 Board of Directors member Michele Small, and, of course, Mileka Aljuwani, the president of Project 2019's Milwaukee Chapter.
It was a great day and, once again, a large number of people were exposed to the message of Project 2019.

April 15, 2003
Summer school funds have been cut, basically eliminating summer school for elementary and middle school students. (Most high school and special education students should be able to get summer school.)
The implications of no summer school could be serious. Parents will be faced with paying more for daycare, leaving children home alone, and otherwise scrambling to make sure their children have a safe place to go this summer.
Please come together to see what can be done about this situation. We will host a roundtable discussion on:
-- Tuesday, April 29, 2003 at 6:00 p.m.
-- 2850 N. Teutonia
-- Milwaukee, WI
Please tell others to come, especially if they have children in school. Many people don't know what's going on. As always, children and teens are welcome, refreshments will be served, and rides will be available with advance notice.
Call (414) 350-2911 ( or send E-Mail ) to reserve a place at the meeting -- or if you have questions or need additional information.
March 20, 2003
Project 2019 Milwaukee Chapter will sponsor another school board candidates forum prior to the school board elections for the Milwaukee Public School system that will be held on April 1st. The city wide seat and three districts all have contested races.
The first forum, held on Monday, March 17th, was extremely successful. After an introductory presentation by local and nationally known educator Taki Raton, the candidates responded to the insightful questions asked and issues raised by the concerned citizens in attendance.
The second forum will be held on Wednesday, March 26th. There will be an introductory presentation by Dr. William Rogers, a professor at UW-Milwaukee.
-- MPS Candidates Forum
-- Starting at 6:00 pm
-- 2850 N. Teutonia (Near Locust)
-- Milwaukee, WI
Call (414) 350-2911 for additional information.
Refreshments will be served. Children and teens are welcomed to attend.
We talk about MPS, complain about it, and talk about how it needs to be changed. Well, the place to exercise some influence over the schools is at the school board level. If you don't tell people what you want the school system to be they will make it be whatever they want it to be.
Call (414) 350-2911 ( or send E-Mail ) to RSVP, if you are interested in holding a leadership position within the Milwaukee Chapter of Project 2019, or if you are in need of our services.
