Statement Of Purpose


PURPOSE
The Livingstone College Chapter was established in 2001 as the first collegiate Project 2019 Chapter. Its purpose is to reach out to young black Americans in order to help achieve the ultimate goals of Project 2019.

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of the Livingstone College Chapter of Project 2019 is to promote academic excellence and encourage higher education through the active mentoring of "at risk" high school students.

OBJECTIVES
* To become a reliable source of support mentoring high school students in need of help with academics, social development, and overall counseling concerning life issues.
* To develop SAT and ACT test taking skills as well as assisting in completing college applications and scholarship searches.
* To raise cultural and community self-awareness by engaging in intellectual dialogue through our "Brother to Brother" and "Sister to Sister" programs.
* To establish a Scholarship Fund and a Grade Incentive Program for members who stay involved in the Project 2019 program.
* To promote Project 2019 as a nationwide movement to reach educational parity with white America.

GOAL
The goal of the Livingstone College Chapter of Project 2019 is to increase the number of black American youths who enter and graduate from colleges and universities.
