Sherrell M. Garth

Sherrell M. Garth, a native of the Northern Indiana area, born and raised in Gary, Indiana. Upon, graduating from college at Purdue University, in West Lafayette, Indiana, it was there where she earned her Bachelors of Science degree in Consumer Science Education, with a specialty in Early Childhood Development and Family Life.

She made her home in the Northwest suburbs area of Illinois for over sixteen years. She became the President of Chadd Chapter’s Northwest suburbs area, for over three years in Hoffman Estates, Schaumburg, and Hanover Park, Illinois area.

During six years stay in Kenosha, Wisconsin she served in the position of a Probono Elder Care Law Specialist/Paralegal. She rendered her services free of charge to the legal aide department for over three years. This is what won her the right to be called the Women of Year during 1995, by NAACP for her mediation and diplomacy in the community.

Sherrell moved to Garland Texas to be closer to her family and to teach at Richland College in Dallas, Texas, in the field of Medical Records and Technology. During the time she was attending a workshop in Dallas, Texas she was recruited. It was then when the Navy discovered her gifts and talents, and, then the United States Army recruited her. She served in the United States Army as a civilian on government official orders Overseas in Hanan, Germany supporting and training teachers in the field of Early Childhood Development, Family Life, Curriculum and Instructions. It was her Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, which enabled her the right to call herself a highly qualified Teacher in the area of Pre-School/Kindergarten through the Ninth grade. She received her Masters degree from National Louis University in Evanston, Illinois. She remained overseas with her family for five years, and then she later returned to the states.

Upon, returning to the States she was lead to come back home to Gary, Indiana. She had to remind herself what she had been called to do in her own hometown. Mileka Aljuwani had to remind her of the great work that needed to be done in their urban cities. She was like a massager that was sent from the Most High. There was such a strong urgency in her voice each time that she spoke. However, little did she know, that she herself did not have very much time left on this earth. They did manage to create some special time to talk, about her starting a Project 2019. SherrelI gave her word that she would do everything in her power to assist her in this effort to get a chapter started in Indiana. This is now becoming a reality. It is happening, because of a hard working Women’s effort to get the message across to a friend who she believed that really cared. Sherrell Garth states that she can do this; because she believes that Mileka's spirit is still with her guiding her through the process.
